Oral Surgery
What is oral surgery?
The department performs surgical procedures for diseases of the mouth and surrounding area, with the exception of treatment of tooth decay and periodontal disease. We perform TMJ disorder, wisdom teeth extraction (including extraction of difficult cases such as implanted teeth), etc.
What is temporomandibular joint disorder?
It refers to a loss of function around the joints for some reason, such as a cracking sound, pain or inability to open the mouth. It may also cause stiff shoulders, headaches, hearing loss, dizziness, loss of appetite, and other symptoms that may interfere with daily life.
Since it is largely a lifestyle-related disease, treatment centers on self-care by the patient, such as eliminating bad habits like teeth grinding and uneven chewing. Other treatment options include medication, correction of the causative bite, cleaning of the joint cavity, and endoscopic surgery.
What are wisdom teeth?
It is the eighth tooth counting from the front tooth that generally erupts around the age of 17 to 30. Since it is the last of the permanent teeth to erupt, there is no space for it and it may be tilted sideways or at an angle, or it may remain buried in the bone and not erupt.
Since these wisdom teeth often cause swelling and decay to neighboring teeth, and tend to cause problems, extraction may be recommended.
